What a good day for Manto! Nandita Das, Nawazuddin Siddiqui win at APSA, film now on Netflix.

Indian actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui and filmmaker Nandita Das have been awarded at the 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA), held in Brisbane, Australia. While Siddiqui was given the award for the Best Performance By An Actor, Nandita Das received the FIAPF award for achievement in films in the Asia Pacific region (Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films; English: International Federation of Film Producers Associations).

Manto is her second feature film as a director, which premiered in UnCertain Regard at Cannes Film Festival 2018. It has also played at Sydney, Toronto and Busan Film Festival. Her first film as a director was the 2008 film Firaaq. Watch her thanking for the award here.

Manto traces the life of the prolific writer Saadat Hasan Manto. It also stars Rasika Dugal and Tahir Raj Bhasin. Find the film on Netflix here.

Ivan Ayr won the APSA 2018 jury award for a Special Mention for Achievement in Directing for his film Soni. Ayr thanked the brave women who opened their life to him for a short while to tell this story. The Achievement in Directing Award went to a filmtribe favourite film, to Nadine Labaki for Capernaum.
