As cricket fever has swept the nation, the teaser of Saand Ki Aankh has been released. Only this sports film is about the competitive sport of shooting.
The film follows Bhumi Pednekar as Chandro Tomar and Taapsee Pannu as Prakashi Tomar, the two sharpshooters who began their journey at the age of 50 under the coach Dr Rajpal, played by Vineet Kumar Singh. If you are curious about the title of the film, it translates to Bull’s Eye.
In 1998, coach Dr Rajpal who had been national level player in shooting convinced local government to open the Johri Rifle Club in Johri village in the interiors of Uttar Pradesh. But he needed to find people to join it now. The Tomar family was very renowned in the Johri village. Jai Singh’s wife Chandro Tomar and Bhandwar Singh’s wife Prakashi Tomar had 45 grandchildren in total, the matriarchs of the family. In totality, the Tomar family consists of 70 members.
At the age of 50, they picked up a gun for the sake of their daughters in the hopes of encouraging them towards a bright future. They did not want their daughters to share the same fate as a lifetime of suppression. What unfolded was nothing short of miraculous. They discovered their own skill of being exceptional shooters. Despite all the odds, they won 352 medals each in the course of their veteran professional life as a shooter.
Produced by Reliance Entertainment & Nidhi Parmar, with a Creative Producer in Anurag Kashyap, the film is directed by Tushar Hiranandani. Saand Ki Aankh is slated for a Diwali release, on 25 October 2019.
