The latest film from the Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha was the most expensive purchase at the Sundance Film Festival for distribution. In Blinded By The Light, she delivers her biggest film since the 2002 breakout film, which is being marked as her return to form. And the trailer of the film is finally here with a release date.
Based on the memoir Greetings from Bury Park by journalist Sarfraz Manzoor — who also co-wrote the film with Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges, it is the story of every one of us. It is set in the austere days of Thatcher’s Britain in 1987, where a British Pakistani teenager named Javed (Viveik Kalra) from the working class in Luton, discovers life, joy and understanding for his family when he chances upon the music of the American musician Bruce Springsteen.
The film is an independent production, also featuring Hayley Atwell, Rob Brydon, Kulvinder Ghir, Nell Williams, Aaron Phagura. It has the original score by A.R. Rahman.
Blinded By The Light is releasing in cinemas on 14 August in India, USA and many other countries via New Line Cinema (Warner Bros), with 9 August in the home country of UK.
