Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2019 announced its first lineup a few hours ago, with 16 films in the Gala Premiere and 37 films in the Special Presentations sections, offering the best of cinema from across the world. And amongst them, is one Indian film. The Sky is Pink directed by Shonali Bose has been announced for a Gala Premiere on 13 September 2019.
The film is inspired by late Indian author Aisha Chaudhary and her family and has been touted as a humorous love story. Aisha Chaudhary was a young Indian author and motivational speaker with pulmonary fibrosis who passed away at the age of nineteen. She is the author of the book My Little Epiphanies, published one day before her death. In the film, the deceased teenage daughter narrates the story of her mother and father’s poignant, affecting, and inspiring romance.
While Zaira Wasim plays the role of Aisha Chaudhary, Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar play her parents in The Sky is Pink. Rohit Saraf plays Aisha’s brother Ishaan Chaudhary in the film.
A TIFF alumna, this is Shonali Bose’s fourth outing, her previous being Amu (2005), Chittagong (2012) and Margarita With A Straw (2014). Of these, Amu and Margarita With a Straw premiered at TIFF. Notedly, Priyanka Chopra has had two films play at TIFF before too, Mary Kom and her production Pahuna. TIFF 2019 will run from 5 – 15 September 2019.
