Netflix has released the trailer of its next original, The White Tiger today. Based on the New York Times bestseller and 2008 Man Booker Prize-winning novel by Aravind Adiga, the film tells the tale of Balram Halwai.Balram (Adarsh Gourav) is a rickshaw driver’s son, who joins a very rich couple’s household as a servant. Serving as a driver, he wants to make himself indispensable to his rich masters, a rich Indian businessman named Ashok (Rajkummar Rao) and his Indian American wife Pinky (Priyanka Chopra). But after a night of betrayal, he realizes the corrupt lengths they will go to trap him and save themselves.
It is only on the verge of losing everything, that Balram rebels against a rigged and unequal system, to rise up as an entrepreneur.. to find his place in the world and become a new kind of master. Watch the trailer here.
Starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Rajkummar Rao and Adarsh Gourav, The White Tiger has been adapted for the screen and directed by Ramin Bahrani. It is executive produced by Ava DuVernay, Priyanka Chopra Jonas while Mukul Deora serves as producer.
The book was an incisive take on the class-divide. Hopefully, the adaptation would do justice. If the trailer is to go by, it might just.
