The film traces the life of a struggling street photographer Rafi (Siddiqui), who persuades Miloni, a shy stranger (Malhotra), to pose as his fiancee when he is being pressured to marry by his grandmother. The two lives intersect in Mumbai and go along together.
The film also stars Abdul Quadir Amin, Denzil Smith and Saharsh Kumar Shukla.Produced by Batra’s studio Poetic License Motion Pictures, it is written and directed by Ritesh Batra, with producers including Neil Kopp, Vincent Savino, Anish Savjani. Batra’s film will be screened at the festival as a part of its world premiere section alongside 17 other titles including Gurinder Chadha’s Blinded By The Light.
Batra, who made his debut in 2013 with the breakaway success The Lunchbox that earned him a BAFTA nomination, also has the films Our Souls at Night (2017) and The Sense of an Ending (2017) to his credit. His next film is another Amazon Studios film Little Bee, that Julia Roberts will both star and produce in.
