When Karan Johar propagates objectification and vanity within his own industry for salacious TRP worthy episodes, it’s hard for me to judge as they make their own money, pay hefty taxes and it is the viewer’s choice to still keep watching the show. But our tax money supports these cricketers and takes them to the world stage, which gives them the fame to get those endorsements for big money.
For people who’ve made the counter argument that these men had the guts to put out in the open what happens anyway, I’d like to argue it’s myopic. When you represent the country and are not worthy of it, you better at least hide it if you won’t change it. You are the idols to the youth and represent what should be good sportsmanship.
Speaking of which, the men who’ve done that flawlessly through their entire career include MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid. And it happens to be the latters birthday today. A happy happy birthday to the aspirational and inspirational man Rahul Dravid, who turns 46 today.
For us, detoxification is necessary. watch the Season 1 Episode 1 of What The Duck with Vikram Sathaye, featuring Rahul Dravid. It’s truly amazing hear him speak on the same topics and use words like ‘innocence’.
Update, 11 January Evening:
The world is getting real for the two 25 and 26 year old cricketers confused between ‘I’ve arrived’ liberal cool vs. misogyny and being unprofessional. They have been suspended from the team and their captain has slammed their actions. The Koffee With Karan episode featuring Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul has been taken down., although I sure it’s still floating around.
1. COA letter to Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul: “You are hereby suspended with immediate effect from participating in any manner whatsoever in any match or activity authorized or supported by the BCCI, the ICC or any State Association, until final adjudication of the matter.”
2. Virat Kohli has said at the SCG ahead of the opening ODI against Australia: “From the Indian cricket team point of view, any inappropriate comments that are made in that scenario are something that we definitely don’t support and the two concerned players felt what has gone wrong and they have understood the magnitude of what’s happened.
We, definitely, as the Indian cricket team do not support views like that and that has been communicated.”
3. “Certain remarks/comments made by the guests on the episode 12 of Koffee with Karan may hurt the sentiments of our users/viewers. As a responsible platform, we have removed the episode from Hotstar with immediate effect,” Hotstar tweeted. The tweet is not available anymore either.
