India’s entry to Oscars 2019 announced.

Filmmaker Rima Das’s Assamese film Village Rockstars has been chosen by the Selection Committee as India’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category at Oscars 2019.

The Toronto International Film Festival 2017 premiere also won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film this year. It also won the Best Child Artist, Best Location Sound Recordist and Best Editing Award.

And PVR VKAAO is releasing the film in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Kochi and on demand on 28 September.

The self-taught filmmaker, made the film over 4 years on a handheld camera with non-actors at her village, Kalardiya, in Assam’s Chaygaon. And the one-woman army is the writer, cinematographer, production designer, editor, producer and director of the film. The 91st Academy Awards are scheduled to be held on February 24, 2019.

The entry last year was Amit Masurkar’s film Newton starring Rajkummar Rao in the titular role, which did not get a nomination.
