The 2019 International Emmy Awards nominations were announced today on 19 September 2019, with 44 nominees from 21 countries across 11 categories.Britain and Brazil lead country wise with nominations in five categories each, but India has managed to get four spots too! India has four nominations, where it is interesting to note that it is for original programming by Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.
These include a nod for Radhika Apte in Lust Stories for Best Performance by an Actress, which is also nominated for the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series. The Netflix film is a collection of four shorts by Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar and Dibakar Banerjee. In the short helmed by Kashyap, Apte plays a married college professor Kalindi, who has a fling with her student Tejas (Akshay Thosar).
Netflix’s Sacred Games Season 2 has received a nomination for Best Drama Series. The Season 2 of the show, which stars Saif Ali Khan as Sartaj Singh and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Ganesh Gaitonde, has been co-directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and Anurag Kashyap. Vikramaditya Motwane is the showrunner, while Varun Grover is the lead writer.
The Remix, a music reality show on Amazon Prime Video, has been nominated for the Best Non-Scripted Entertainment Award. This reality series asks musicians to reshuffle and remix popular songs from Bollywood movies. Ten teams, each made up of a singer and a music producer, begin the competition and must create their own takes on some of India’s most popular songs. Sunidhi Chauhan, Amit Trivedi and Nucleya are the judges on the show. The series is based on a format that has been sold in 15 countries across Asia, Africa and Europe and hosted by Karan Tacker.
The International Academy will also present special awards to CNN and PBS journalist Christiane Amanpour, and to David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the creators and showrunners of Game of Thrones.
The winners of the 47th International Emmys will be announced 25 November in New York. The Primetime Emmy Awards will be handed out on 22 September in Los Angeles.
