Netflix released a trailer for House Arrest, its next Original movie from India in October. House Arrest is supposed to be a comedy of errors. It was announced as a Netflix Original in April 2019 along with nine other films and the first to release amongst them.
Karan (Fazal) trapped in his own fears, has locked himself in his home to keep out the onslaught of modern life. Six months later, the self-imposed home confinement becomes a comedy of errors with the simultaneous arrivals of a dangerous package from a neighbour Pinky (Singh), who is also a don’s daughter, and a curious journalist Saira (Pilgaonkar) courtesy his friend JD (Sarbh), who (predictably) starts to fall in love as they spend time at Karan’s home.Starring Ali Fazal, Shriya Pilgaonkar (Mirzapur), and Jim Sarbh (Neerja) in the lead, the supporting cast includes Barkha Singh, Badrul Islam, and Sunil Kumar. House Arrest is co-directed by Shashanka Ghosh (Veere Di Wedding) and novelist Samit Basu, who makes his directorial debut with this film. Written between 2012 – 2014, the story and screenplay for the film are by Basu while the dialogue is by Ghosh. It has been produced by Trilok Malhotra and KR Harish of India Stories.
Ghosh’s credits include Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II (2003), Quick Gun Murugun (2009), and Khoobsurat (2014). Basu is the author of fantasy novels such as the Gameworld trilogy and the superhero titles Turbulence (2012) and Resistance (2013).
Karan may want to shut the door on the world but the world won’t stop ringing his doorbell. Who will he let in? Rated 18+, House Arrest premieres on 15 November, only on Netflix.
