The makers of Article 15 have released a new rap track for the film titled – Shuru Karein Kya. Ab Fark Layenge. (Should we start? It’s time to BE the change!) The rap track which is quite apt for the subject the film targets has probably been commissioned due to the new found fame for the genre post Zoya Akhtar’s hit film Gully Boy, released at the beginning of 2019.
The song reflects on the seventy years it has been since independence, yet how far we are from truly being free. Free from discrimination, free from caste and class based prejudice, instilled in much greater form and institutionalised during British rule. The lyrics say, “Baatein bahut hui, kaam shuru karein kya. Kal kya karega, aaj shuru karein kya.”
The question remains, with all the strides India has made and opportunities afforded by the youth because of the sacrifices made by the previous generation, do they have the power to fight for justice? Watch the song here. For the sing-along lovers, find the lyrics of the song below the video on Youtube.
The singers and songwriters of Shuru Karein Kya are SlowCheeta, Dee MC, Kaam Bhaari & Spitfire, who are joined by actor Ayushmann Khurrana in the video, but he doesn’t lend his beautiful voice to the song. The track has been composed, arranged, and produced by Devin “DLP” Parker & Gingger Shankar.
Written by the director Anubhav Sinha with Gaurav Solanki, the film stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Isha Talwar, Sayani Gupta, Kumud Mishra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Manoj Pahwa. Anubhav Sinha’s last film Mulk, which met critical acclaim, raised questions about religious discrimination too. Watch the trailer of the film here.
Article 15 releases on 28 June across India. And it is the film to watch this summer.
