If you watched the let down called Ghost Stories by Netflix, you also noticed that the only saving grace of the anthology was the short film by Dibakar Banerjee. Dibakar Banerjee returns with his sixth feature film after five years, the last being Detective Byomkesh Bakshy with Sushant Singh Rajput.
Co-written by Banerjee and Varun Grover, the trailer opens with Sandeep Kaur (Parineeti Chopra) running towards a plainclothesman Haryanvi police officer Pinky Dahiya (Arjun Kapoor) waiting in a car and sitting in it. She asks him to help her run away and is willing to pay whatever it takes. Her life is at risk for the secret she is protecting and one she wouldn’t tell Pinky. As he reluctantly goes on the journey with her, to help her escape unnoticed to Nepal, they find themselves ‘hiding’ with an aged couple, played by Neena Gupta and Raghubir Yadav. But unbeknownst to her, he has been tasked (by Jaideep Ahlawat) to kill Sandeep. Watch the trailer here.
The film release has been delayed for a while, probably given the low bankability of the lead pair, Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra. Arjun Kapoor made his debut with Parineeti in the film Ishaqzaade in 2012. Hopefully, this film can bring them both the same acclaim. With a film that seems to have a script that doesn’t belong to the 90s, and helmed by one of the best filmmakers of the Hindi film industry, they might just find their day in cinema again… Even with the rushed promotion window by Yash Raj Films.
The film produced by Yash Raj Films is scheduled to be in theatres on 20 March 2020.
