Anupam Kher as The Accidental Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Watch the trailer now.

An adaptation from the controversial book by Sanjaya Baru, Singh’s former media advisor, you don’t want to miss the trailer of The Accidental Prime Minister. It might be safe to say that the film will be more controversial. The film follows the life and journey of the 14th Prime Minister of India during his tenure. And the trailer gives you a glimpse into the scathing representation made of the Gandhi family’s nepotist attitude with regards to the Indian National Congress.

The film stars Anupam Kher as Dr. Manmohan Singh, Akshaye Khanna as Sanjaya Baru, Suzanne Bernert as Sonia Gandhi, Aahana Kumra as Priyanka Gandhi, Arjun Mathur as Rahul Gandhi, and Divya Seth Shah as Gursharan Kaur, Singh’s wife. The directorial debut by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, the film’s creative producer is the king of biopics, Hansal Mehta. The screenplay has been written by Mayank Tewari, Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, Karl Dunne and Aditya Sinha.

Policy analyst Baru was Dr. Singh’s media advisor from May 2004 – May 2008, while Dr Singh was PM until May 2014. The book was published in April 2014, when the PMO dismissed it as a work of ‘fiction’.

Propaganda by the BJP or just good commerce decisions by filmmakers, it is interesting to note the three politico films releasing in 2019 in a run up to the April – May 2019 Lok Sabha elections are Uri, Thackeray and The Accidental Prime Minister. The Accidental Prime Minister and Uri release on January 11, 2019. Thackeray releases on January 25, 2019.
