The Cannes Film Festival 2018 premiering film that won the Best Director Award for Oscar winner Pawel Pawlikowski is one of the most coveted and acclaimed film titles of 2018, and a serious Academy Award contender.
Acquired by Amazon Studios for USA, Cold War will release in select theaters December 21 in USA and hopefully soon after on Amazon Prime. And they have released a new trailer of the film!
An evocative black-and-white period piece, depicting the bumpy romance of a couple fatally mismatched and yet condemned to each other, it is set against the background of the Cold War in the 1950s in Poland, Berlin, Yugoslavia and Paris. The film features Joanna Kulig (Ida) and Tomasz Kot (Spoor). Agata Kulesza from Ida also returns.
The filmmaker won at the Oscars in 2014 with his film Ida. Is it personal for him? The romantic leads are named after Pawlikowski’s own parents, to whom the film is dedicated.
Released in Poland 8 June under its original title Zimna Wojna, it is Poland’s official entry for the 2019 Oscars.
