A dacoit drama from deep in the Chambal. The teaser trailer of Sushant Singh Rajput’s Sonchiriya.

The Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Sonchiriya‘s first teaser is out, and if Udta Punjab is anything to go by, director Abhishek Chaubey promises to tell us an untold tale from deep in the Chambal.

Opening with a graphic visual, the teaser shows Manoj Bajpayee leading a team of dacoits announcing their arrival in a village. The dacoits are on the lookout for a ‘golden bird’ (Son Chiriya). But what is that golden bird and why is everyone after it? Chambal Valley was once famous for its allegiance to dacoits. The film has been shot in the valley.

Interestingly, the character played by Manoj Bajpayee is referred to as Man Singh, the name of his character in the 1994 Shekhar Kapur’s Phoolan Devi biopic Bandit Queen. Is he reprising the same character role?

The movie’s cast also includes Bhumi Pednekar, Ranvir Shorey and Ashutosh Rana among others. A MacGuffin Pictures Production, produced by Ronnie Screwvala of RSVP Films, the film is set for a February release.
