Photograph by Ritesh Batra has had a dream start of a journey already. Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sanya Malhotra in pivotal roles, it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2019 in the World Premiere section and played at the Berlinale Special Gala Section.
The film traces the life of a struggling Mumbai street photographer Rafi (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), who persuades Miloni, a shy stranger (Sanya Malhotra), to pose as his fiancee when he is being pressured to marry by his grandmother. Watch the trailer here.
The film also stars Farrukh Jaffar, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Vijay Raaz, Jim Sarbh, Akash Sinha, Saharsh Kumar Shukla. Produced by Batra’s studio Poetic License Motion Pictures, the Amazon Studios film is written and directed by Ritesh Batra, with producers including Neil Kopp, Vincent Savino, Anish Savjani. The India / Germany / USA co-production, releases on 15 March 2019 in India.
Batra, who made his debut in 2013 with the breakaway success film The Lunchbox that earned him a BAFTA nomination, also has the films Our Souls at Night (2017) and The Sense of an Ending (2017) to his credit. His next film is another Amazon Studios film Little Bee, that Julia Roberts will both star and produce in.
