The opening night film at the ongoing Mumbai Film Festival was met with great anticipation and excitement. Directed by Vasan Bala, a frequent Anurag Kashyap collaborator whose recent writing credits include Raman Raghav 2.0 and Bombay Velvet, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota is the second film by the filmmaker. His 2012 debut film Peddlers was a double nominee at Festival de Cannes.
From being the first film from India to have been selected in the Midnight Madness section at the Toronto International Film Festival 2018, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (The Man Who Feels No Pain) kickboxed its way into winning the Grolsch People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award, which ran from September 6 – 16. Read about the premiere here.
The film is about a young man quite literally born with the ability to feel no pain strikes out on a quest to vanquish 100 foes. And the film is supposed to be the coolest mix of a martial arts action film and a love letter to Bollywood and Matunga by a filmmaker who grew up on it and in that neighbourhood. Featuring Abhimanyu Dassani, Radhika Madan, Mahesh Manjrekar and Gulshan Devaiah. No release date has been announced yet, but with Ronnie Screwvala behind it, it should release in the next few months.
Suresh Triveni (Film Director, Tumhari Sulu)
Sukanya Verma (Film Critic, Rediff and The Hindu)
Priyanka Sharma (Film Correspondent, Indian Express)
Navjot Gulati (Writer, Running Shaadi)

And the performance of the film comes from… Gulshan Devaiah. The actor was also a part of Bala’s 2012 film Peddlers.
