The film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which is premiering at Sundance Film Festival 2019, features Zac as Ted Bundy, one of the most infamous serial killers in the United States who was responsible for the deaths and sexual assaults of more than 30 women.
The reason he seemed to have gotten away with it as long as he did? He was crazy-handsome, smart, charismatic, affectionate. And that is why Zac Efron makes for a very interesting and contentious choice for the portrayal of the man hated by all. While it may exactly serve the charming that made him the man he was, it might be very difficult to see for families of the victims and may audiences who wish to hate him.
Watch the trailer below, which shows a teaser of Bundy’s arrest, court appearances, and time in prison, through the lens of his relationship with his girlfriend and single mother, Liz Kloepfer (portrayed by Lily Collins), who was head over heels in love with him.
The film also features Kaya Scodelario as his future wife Carole Ann Boone, Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons as lead prosecutor Larry Simpson, John Malkovich as judge Edward Cowart, Haley Joel Osment as Detective Jerry Thompson and Metallica's James Hetfield as Bundy's arresting officer.
Renowned filmmaker and Academy-Award nominee Joe Berlinger, who also directed the recently released Netflix documentary series Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, directs this film.
