James Erskine is an award winning British filmmaker known for his incredible work in non-fiction, including his Emmy nominated The Human Face, the acclaimed Who Killed the Honey Bee? One Night in Turin and Battle of the Sexes which tells the story of the most watched tennis match ever between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs.

To us Indians, he is known as the man who finally got to make a film on the legend and demigod Sachin Tendulkar, namely the documentary Sachin: A Billion Dreams. In a nation obsessed with biopics, think Mary Kom, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and Dhoni, the cricketer Tendulkar or as like to fondly call him, Master Blaster, would not agree to one. What he did agree to, was a documentary on his life in cricket, directed by James Erskine and produced by Ravi Bhagchandka and Carnival Motion Pictures. Watch the incredible trailer here.

FilmTribe founder Deepa Bajaj will be speaking to the director on behalf of IIMA Alumni London next week, April 3 at 6pm, in Soho, London. And you can attend! Tickets are £15 and you can book as a guest. Use alumnus name Swastik Nigam in referral section to buy a ticket. Tickets are limited so don’t wait till the last second. Book here.

Hear them engage in a discussion about how OTT services (i.e. Netflix, Amazon, Hotstar, AltBalaji and more) across the world revolutionize filmmaking, building British and Indian collective creative economies to tell Indian stories to a global audience, and how AI (Artificial Intelligence) is part of the solution. Really? AI? He has his reasons. Attend to find out.
