The opening night film at the ongoing Mumbai Film Festival was met with great anticipation and excitement. Directed by Vasan Bala, a frequent Anurag Kashyap collaborator whose recent writing credits include Raman Raghav 2.0 and Bombay Velvet, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota is the second film by the filmmaker. His 2012 debut film Peddlers was a double nominee at Festival de Cannes.

Abhimanyu Dassani as The Man Who Feels No Pain
From being the first film from India to have been selected in the Midnight Madness section at the Toronto International Film Festival 2018, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (The Man Who Feels No Pain) kickboxed its way into winning the Grolsch People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award, which ran from September 6 – 16. Read about the premiere here
The film is about a young man quite literally born with the ability to feel no pain strikes out on a quest to vanquish 100 foes. And the film is supposed to be the coolest mix of a martial arts action film and a love letter to Bollywood and Matunga by a filmmaker who grew up on it and in that neighbourhood. Featuring Abhimanyu Dassani, Radhika Madan, Mahesh Manjrekar and Gulshan Devaiah. No release date has been announced yet, but with Ronnie Screwvala behind it, it should release in the next few months.

There is a way i imagined the world would be when i was growing up . For me it was The world of amar chitra katha , famous five , ram rahim and man mohan desai films . I lost the innocence later @Vasan_Bala i relived that world ! #MardKoDardNahiHota @RSVPMovies @RonnieScrewvala

Suresh Triveni (Film Director, Tumhari Sulu)

A filmmaker becomes the film after his own heart & a dream is immortalised. Vasan Bala’s wacky imagination, bubbling love for the movies & pure, preserved innocent, memories of childhood rock every single frame of #MardKoDardNahiHota’s fizzy, funny, funky & fights-filled treat.

#MardKoDardNahiHota is THE BEST FILM I have seen in 2018 yet. Have stayed away from action films as much as possible, but this one made me want to whistle. What a whacky mind @Vasan_Bala is!! #JioMAMIWithStar2018

#MardKoDardNahiHota by @Vasan_Bala & team is a love letter to the movies sprinkled with some insane humour, palangtod action, marvellous bgm by Karan Kulkarni. The performances by Abhimanyu, Radhika & Mahesh Manjerekar are all GOOD but the SCENE STEALER is @gulshandevaiah!!!

And the performance of the film comes from… Gulshan Devaiah. The actor was also a part of Bala’s 2012 film Peddlers.

REVIEW: It says something about writer-director @Vasan_Bala‘s life that #MardKoDardNahiHota – a movie inspired by the movies – feels like the most personal Hindi film of the year. Read @ReelReptile‘s take on the @MumbaiFilmFest opening film: #FCAtMAMI2018 https://t.co/LTqMvlxhWY
