Happy 2022! We had hopes for life to resume and with it, the cinema going experience. But COVID 19 carried viewing habits from 2020 into 2021 for safety, as we continue to deal with the pandemic. We hope that India never has to go through scenarios it battled in April – June 2021.
For the ones who got the opportunity to view content, film, TV, and web series, for comfort, escape, or a salve, we hope good storytelling brought some joy. And, of course, we ran a poll asking the people who make us a tribe, and thus FilmTribe, what they believed to be the best of 2021 for Hindi film and web series. And the results are here! Final results below followed by nominations and vote percentages received by each nominee.
In the Hindi film category, Sardar Udham Singh was the clear favourite amongst audiences which was a joy to see, although we feel Meel Patthar may not have got the love it deserves. This may be perhaps due to the lack of star value or marketing/ PR machineries behind it.

For the web series category, it was impressive to see how different the audience’s view of the content was in comparison, with somewhat different results than we’d expect and a clean sweep for one web series across all categories!

While The Family Man Season 2 was great, for what it’s worth, we would have awarded Best Screenplay to Little Things Season 4 for the perfect swan song season, Best Actor to Pavan Malhotra for an above and beyond performance in Tabbar, and Best Actress to Sushmita Sen for Aarya Season 2. But the tribe has spoken, and it is bigger than us. Congratulations to the winners!
Notably and perhaps as the minority voice, Kiara Advani makes a reappearance in our list of nominations, with Guilty and 2020 and Shershaah in 2021. We believe she’s an under-recognised talent, who hopefully gets her due someday. The only other reappearance from 2020 is Sushmita Sen for Aarya Season 2. You can find the 2020 winners here.
The closest race in 2021 involved Vidya Balan and Sanya Malhotra for Best Actress for Hindi Film and Sushmita Sen and Samantha Prabhu for Best Actress for Hindi Web Series!
